Q: How much mulch would I need?

A: One cubic yard of the material covers a 324 square foot area at one inch deep. To determine your total, multiply your square footage by the depth in inches desired, then divide by 324.

Q: What are the benefits of using mulch?

A: Mulch is used to help retain soil moisture, suppress weeds, and improve the look of your garden.

Q: What are some benefits of using stone in your garden area?

A: Stone offers multiple benefits in irrigation, weed control, maintenance, and aesthetic. Stone can also serve as a durable alternative to mulch that won't need to be replaced yearly.

Q: What is topsoil used for?

A: Topsoil can be used in a variety of ways to improve the overall health and quality of your garden and lawn. It can be used for additional drainage, repairing uneven or patchy lawns and nutrients for flower beds and gardens.

Q: What is the difference between topsoil and compost?

A: Topsoil is the top layer of any soil above the bedrock and is the most nutrient-rich layer of naturally occurring soil. Compost is a combination of natural materials that decompose to become organic matter. Compost contains nutrients that act as natural fertilizer and compost is desirable for improving soil structure, reducing compaction, and improving water retention while simultaneously improving drainage.

Product Photo Disclaimer

At Southtowns Supply, we work hard to provide clear, accurate images of our landscaping materials, bulk stone, mulch, topsoil, and hardscaping products. Because these are natural products, color and texture can vary based on lighting, moisture, weather conditions, and the time of day the photos were taken. Materials may appear lighter, darker, or more saturated when viewed online compared to seeing them in person.

Since many customers use our photos to plan their landscaping, garden, and outdoor construction projects, we encourage you to stop by our yard to view materials firsthand for the most accurate match. We gladly provide stone samples, mulch samples, and topsoil previews to help you choose the right product for your project.
